Taking the self-narratives of people with low vision as an empirical basis, we argue that their way of being in the world has contours very similar to the ethnographic exercise. By having their vision changed, the person is thrown into a continuous process of sensorial, emotional, relational and cognitive estrangement from themselves, just as the ethnographer is transformed by field experiences. In both cases, estrangements generate languages to account for the transformations. In the case of the person with low vision, language is her own understanding of herself, while, for the ethnographer, it is her anthropological theory. We invest in the heuristic potential of this analogy with two objectives in mind: recognizing the bodily and intellectual creativity of people with low vision at the same time as we seek to contribute to the project of crippling anthropologies from the perspective of the disabled. Neste artigo, refletimos sobre a subjetivação da pessoa com baixa visão a partir da analogia com a etnografia. Tomando como base empírica as narrativas sobre si de pessoas com baixa visão, argumentamos que o modo de ser e estar no mundo delas guarda contornos muito parecidos com o exercício etnográfico. Ao ter sua visão alterada, a pessoa é lançada em um contínuo processo de estranhamento sensorial, emocional, relacional e cognitivo de si mesma, tal como a etnógrafa1 é transformada pelas experiências de campo. Em ambos os casos, os estranhamentos geram linguagens para dar conta das transformações. No caso da pessoa com baixa visão, a linguagem é seu próprio entendimento de si, enquanto que, para a etnógrafa, é sua teoria antropológica.
