        The first known record of the romance Esse buen rey don Alonso / el de la mano horadada is in the Cancionero de romances, printed by Martín Nucio in Antwerp in 1546 or 1547, although the romance predates these dates. This paper investigates the possible origins of this romance, proposing that it was composed in Toledo between the 1530s and 1540s. Based on these coordinates, three reception phases are proposed. The first, by Nucio, proposes a historical reading; a moral reading, somewhat later and typical of the loose sheets; and finally, a reading in a Mozarabic key, likely the most immediate to its composition.
        El primer testimonio conocido del romance Esse buen rey don Alonso / el de la mano horadada es el del Cancionero de romances, impreso por Martín Nucio en Amberes en 1546 o 1547, pero el romance es anterior a esas fechas. El presente trabajo indaga en los posibles orígenes de ese romance, proponiendo que se compuso en Toledo entre los años 30 y 40 de ese mismo siglo. Partiendo de estas coordenadas, se proponen tres fases de recepción. La de Nucio, que propone una lectura histórica; una lectura moral, algo más tardía y propia de los pliegos sueltos y finalmente, una lectura en clave mozárabe, que probablemente fue la más inmediata a su composición.
