Most importantly, this study sought to identify effective approaches to overcome these barriers and potentially increase BIPOC enrollment in occupational therapy educational programs. Methodology:A three-phrase database search was conducted using literature published in the United States over the past 10 years in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy (AJOT), the Journal of Occupational Therapy Education (JOTE), and in American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) documents such as; quantitative and qualitative research studies, articles, poster presentations, and published conference materials. Based on the occupational therapy literature identified in this three-phrase search, specific areas for further exploration were identified. Conclusion: This study identified current barriers impacting the participation of BIPOC students in occupational therapy educational programs and potential supports and approaches to improve recruitment. Successful recruitment efforts were summarized with three themes: atmospheres, attitudes, and actions.
