ab: Background: Hip-Hop is based on self-determination, resistance, and the long-enduring fight for freedom. Hip-Hop is a phenomenon that encompasses both youth and popular culture. Hip-Hop pedagogy (HHP), a framework, includes culturally relevant instructional practices for students who identify with youth and popular culture. Although HHP has demonstrated recent prevalence, few studies explore the intersection of occupational therapy (OT) fieldwork (FW), Hip-Hop, and the self-determination of students. Methods: For this quantitative study, an academic fieldwork coordinator and program faculty member explored the connection between the use of a Nipsey Hussle (rapper) metaphor during a community practice Level I FW experience and the selfdetermination of OT students. The OT students were enrolled within an entry level Master of Science program at a historically black college-university within the Southeast region of the United States. A sample size of 15 students (n=15) completed the AIR Self-Determination Scale for Students (AIR-S), a selfreporting survey using a Likert-type scale. Data was collected at the mid-term and final of the Level I FW experience incorporating a pre-posttest experimental design. Results: Data analysis was conducted utilizing a paired samples t-test in SPSS 28. Data revealed a correlation between the Hip-Hop themed FW rotation and student's self-determination. Conclusion: A need for further research that intersects occupation, Hip- Hop, and self-determination for students is indicated.
