Sumario:The article reports that Ottakar's PLC is the latest chain to limit its base of direct accounts with small publishers, strengthening its relationship with its preferred wholesaler Gardners. The move comes as Gardners works to improve small publishers' access to the chains through a title selection process. Ottakar's buys direct from large trade distributors such as TBS/GBS, MDL, Penguin, HarperCollins, LBS, Bookpoint and Wiley but does "little business" direct with smaller distributors Orca, Central Books and Turnaround. Gardners has gradually increased its stock range to 400,000 titles, and presents selected titles from smaller publishers to the chains every two months.
