ab: The article reports that Google Inc.'s aim to control the digital editions of Great Britain publishers' titles has aroused the issue that whether publishers should rush in, or hang back and consider their option. Requests from Google for access to books — in order to make them available online--have so far been met with a resounding silence from most trade publishers in Great Britain. They are wary of signing up to a project which is, as yet, so much of an unknown. Google promises publishers that once their content is added to Google's index, it will be secure. However, the general feeling amongst British trade publishers is caution, and an unwillingness to give Google something for nothing.
