This study aims to explore the perspectives of refugees and asylum seekers regarding their behavior when seeking mental healthcare. We conducted a meta-synthesis of thirteen articles published between January 2000 and January 2023. The study identified four main themes: understanding of mental health, utilization of health services, the role of society, and necessary interventions. Based on our findings, we provided recommendations for healthcare providers, governments, and researchers to improve the mental healthcare-seeking behavior of these populations in the future. • By the end of the year 2021, there were around ninety million people who were forcibly displaced. • It has been shown, that refugees and asylum seekers exhibit a higher likelihood of encountering mental health issues. • Refugees and asylum seekers' mental healthcare-seeking patterns are shaped by their perceptions of mental health, use of healthcare services, societal roles, and specific intervention needs. • Actions should be taken by healthcare providers, policymakers and researchers to improve mental health outcomes for this population. pubtype: Academic Journal doctype: research meta synthesis Journal Article ougenre: Article language: English refInfo: holdings: @attributes: islocal: N |
