        Introduction: One of the four main infections related to health care is catheter-associated urinary tract infection (UTI-AS). Objective: Describe a framework of bibliographic references on strategies for the prevention of UTI-AS in the nursing area. Methods: Bibliographic review in English and Spanish, having structured the search according to Boolean operators, with the following combination, in English: "Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection /nursing"; in Spanish: “Urinary tract infection associated with catheter/nursing”, the terms used took into account the vocabulary indexed in the database PUBMED, SciELO, Science Direct, Web of Science, Springer, Latindex, Dialnet UNIROJA, Redalyc; The review was carried out considering the last two years.. Results: The articles that make up this systematic review allow us to analyze the risk factors, actions and strategies to follow for correct installation of a urinary catheter, appropriate procedures during insertion, maintenance, removal, as well as such as the types of nursing care that contribute to the prevention and reduction of urinary tract infections associated with catheter. Conclusions: Prevention of AS-UTI is essential to reduce morbidity, mortality, and costs associated with healthcarerelated infections. The articles in this systematic review are part of the framework of a training program aimed at nursing staff.
        Introducción: Una de las cuatro principales infecciones relacionadas a la atención en salud, es la infección de vías urinarias asociada a sonda (IVU-AS). Objetivo: Describir un marco de referencias bibliográficas sobre estrategias para la prevención de IVU-AS en el área de enfermería. Métodos: Revisión bibliográfica en idioma inglés y español, habiéndose estructurado la búsqueda según operadores booleanos, con la siguiente combinación, en inglés: "Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection /nursing"; en español: “Infección de vías urinarias asociada a sonda /enfermería”, los términos utilizados tuvieron en cuenta el vocabulario indexado a la base de datos PUBMED, SciELO, Science Direct, Web of Science, Springer, Latindex, Dialnet UNIROJA, Redalyc; la revisión se realizó considerando los últimos dos años. Resultados: Los artículos que conforman la presente revisión sistemática permiten analizar los factores de riesgo, acciones y estrategias a seguir para una correcta instalación de sonda vesical, adecuados procedimientos durante la inserción, mantenimiento, retiro, así como los tipos de cuidados de enfermería que contribuyan a la prevención y disminución de infecciones de vías urinarias asociadas a sonda. Conclusiones: La prevención de IVU-AS es esencial para reducir la morbilidad, la mortalidad y los costos asociados con las infecciones relacionadas a la atención en salud. Los artículos de la presente revisión sistemática forman parte del marco de referencia de un programa de capacitación dirigido al personal de enfermería.
