| Sumario: | The Mexican bioseries Silvia Pinal, frente a ti, broadcast by Televisa in 2019, was the most watched series of the year domestically. This article argues that Pinal, a living link to Golden Age cinema, is a unique multiplatform star: in film (famously for Luis Buñuel), television and theatre. The article charts the rise of the bioseries genre in Mexico and suggests that it both projects out onto urgent social issues and reflects back on the entertainment industry. Finally, the article gives an account of the series' production and reception and offers a close reading of three episodes. |
