This method allows them to extract information from software that cannot connect to the internet, such as sensitive tasks performed on air-gapped computers. By installing malware on a machine using an infected USB stick, hackers can transmit ultrasonic noise containing encoded data through the computer's speakers. Researchers have found that by encoding data in tiny fluctuations in processing power, insecure applications can be tricked into communicating with remote hackers. However, an Intel spokesperson stated that no steps would be taken to fix this issue because the method can only be used by attackers who already have privileged access to the system. |
