In order to do this, Taddeo Alderotti's Etica in volgare, a vernacular version of the Summa Alexandrinorum (a summary of aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics), is analysed through the main themes occurring in it -- the presence of images, the tension between the Aristotelian man as a political animal and the ascetic man from the christian tradition, and the citizens depicted as « artifices » -- and through its influence on Guittone d'Arezzo and Dante.
