Currently, this intrusion is still present, particularly in the figure of dental technicians, who, even though, are legally required to limit their work to following the instructions of the stomatologist, without being able to act autonomously and independently in procedures. Clinicians, some of them are known to directly care for patients. Another form of intrusion in Dentistry occurs when dental surgeons without any dental specialty carry out procedures beyond their knowledge, abilities and skills that they generally have. The importance of pointing out and not allowing this exercise of professional activities by people not authorized to do so, not only lies in the legal sanctions that will be applied to those who exercise it; but of even greater importance is preventing oral damage from occurring, many of them irreversible; thus affecting the chewing, phonation and aesthetics of the patients; and even in more serious cases, generating greater systemic effects. El intrusismo, entendido como una usurpación del ámbito profesional, se ha dado en muchos ámbitos; la Odontología no es la excepción, ya que desde la antigüedad se sabe que las primeras prótesis dentales, fueron elaboradas por personas con actividades laborales completamente diferentes a la de los primeros dentistas; ya que estas restauraciones eran realizadas por trabajadores metalúrgicos, cuya destreza manual era extremadamente alta en el manejo del hierro, material empleado para elaborar "piezas dentarias," con las que se ayudaba a las personas a restaurar la función bucal y con esta, la masticatoria. En la actualidad, aún se encuentra presente este intrusismo, particularmente en la figura de los técnicos dentales, quienes aún y cuando, tienen normativamente el señalamiento de limitar su trabajo a seguir las instrucciones del estomatólogo, sin poder actuar de manera autónoma e independiente en procedimientos clínicos, se sabe que algunos de ellos atienden directamente a pacientes. Otra forma de intrusismo en la Odontología, se presenta cuando los cirujanos dentistas sin especialidad odontológica alguna, efectúan procedimientos más allá de sus conocimientos, capacidades y habilidades que de forma general tienen.
