| Sumario: | INTRODUCTION: : Learning difficulties often accompany mental health disorders, which can have a significant impact on the academic life and mental health of students. A number of studies in recent years have examined the comorbidity of mental disorders with learning difficulties however there is limited research on their relationship with teacher readiness. AIM: This research study aims to explore and understand the perceptions and experiences of teachers and students regarding the education and support of children. METHODOLOGY: The study was carried out between December 2022 and February 2023. The study was conducted in the region of Boeotia in Greece. The study used a quantitative research approach, using a survey conducted through a questionnaire. The sample of the study consisted of 900 primary school teachers from the region. To ensure wider participation, the questionnaires were distributed electronically. The teachers who participated in the study were tertiary graduates, and some may have completed postgraduate studies. In addition, they had a few or more years of experience in Greek schools. RESULTS: The results show that teachers feel prepared to deal with difficult behavioural situations in the classroom and can create a positive psychological climate, but there is a knowledge gap for specific cases, such as children whose parents are divorcing and children who are sexually abused. Statistical analysis of the data revealed valuable insights into various aspects of educating and supporting children, including bullying management, classroom and behavior management, supporting children through parental divorce, creating a positive emotional environment, recognizing signs of depression, and supporting cultural identity in the classroom. Findings highlighted the importance of these areas and showed variations in perceptions across demographic groups. CONCLUSION: The research data underlines the need to strengthen teacher training in both mental health issues and educational methods in order to successfully implement and enhance the effectiveness of teaching. The study emphasizes the role of education in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment and highlights the unique needs of diverse student populations.
