| Sumario: | The article highlights the role of language as the source of the spiritual life of the people, the determining factor and the main feature of the identity of the Ukrainian nation. The prospects for the development and functioning of the Ukrainian language in Ukraine are outlined. Language has traditionally been the object of attention of linguists who considered the entire complex of language features, language policy in the historical aspect of the development of Ukrainian society, language as a sign of statehood; the specificity of the relationship between the components of culture and language, their levels; prospects for the development and functioning of the Ukrainian language in Ukraine. L. Kovach, V. Otreshko, I. Isachenko worked on the study of language policy on the importance of cultural and linguistic factors for the preservation of national identification. Ways of improving the state language policy were considered by H. Yevseeva (Azarova, 2015). The purpose of the article is to show language as the main sign of the identity of the Ukrainian nation with its problems and development prospects; highlighting the role of language as a source of the spiritual life of the people, a determining factor of the identity of the Ukrainian nation. The task of the article: to highlight the role of language as a source of the spiritual life of the people, as a determining factor of the identity of the Ukrainian nation; outline the significance of language in the process of formation and establishment of Ukrainian statehood (1991-2024); to outline the prospects for language development and functioning.The method of linguistic description with methods of observation, systematization of language facts and phenomena and the method of complex analysis was chosen as the research method. Statement of the problem: to outline the significance of language in the process of formation and establishment of Ukrainian statehood (1991-2024). The Ukrainian language is a national phenomenon that identifies the national consciousness of Ukrainians and their civic position. Millions of Ukrainians have fought, and continue to fight, for the liberation struggle to live in a free country. Language creates a nation and a state. Therefore, we need to learn to defend our language. Speaking Ukrainian symbolizes the connection between generations, the preservation of cultural space, and the historical heritage of the people of Ukraine. Speaking Ukrainian means political security. At different times, Ukrainians have fought for the right to be free and independent. The state Ukrainian language is the language of citizenship, a guarantee of preserving the national identity of the Ukrainian people, and the basis for the formation of Ukrainian statehood.
