Hand dexterity reflects hand as well as visual function. Thus, when performing the PPT, visual function may be involved in determining the positional relationship between the hand and the target hole. However, the relationship between visual function and hand dexterity has not been examined. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the relationship between PPT performance and static visual acuity (SVA), depth perception (DP), and dynamic visual acuity (DVA). Methods: Nine right-handed normal adults (4 males and 5 females, mean age 24.3±2.0 years) were evaluated in a seated position. The PPT was used to evaluate their fine motor skills. Eye movements were monitored during measurements, which were checked by creating scatter plots. Visual function was assessed with DVA, SVA, and DP. Results: Performance of the dominant hand on the PPT exceeded that of the non-dominant hand. In addition, there was a strong positive correlation between the performance of the dominant hand on the PPT and DVA. We found the trajectories of eye movements during the PPT to be following hand movements back and forth between the starting and target positions of the hand.
