Sumario:Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a benchmark that businesses strive to achieve. One way to conduct CSR is to collaborate with different stakeholders in the community to help the community with their needs. Project WeCan in Hong Kong is such an initiative that provides support to schools that admit students with low academic achievement. This initiative collaborates with universities to conduct Service-Learning projects to serve students experiencing social deprivation and/or with lower academic achievement. To evaluate the effectiveness of the Project WeCan Service-Learning projects on the students, we examined the reflections of the students submitted after the completion of their study. Results showed that students perceived Service-Learning promoted their understanding of leadership (particularly Service-Leadership) knowledge and skills, intrapersonal competences (such as self-understanding, resilience, and emotional competence), and interpersonal competences (such as empathy, social skills, and communication). In particular, students reflected that they had a more positive understanding of students with lower achievement and reduced social stigma toward them. The present study reinforces the belief that Service-Learning is a good vehicle that can be used to promote holistic development and leadership among young people.
