While modern war scholarship has largely focused on land and aerial warfare, naval warfare has often been neglected. Drawing on classical aesthetic traditions from Plato to Baumgarten, alongside more contemporary thinkers like Rancière and Kittler, the essay outlines a theoretical framework for naval war literature by combining aesthetic theory, perceptual orders, and media-technological conditions. The essay identifies the unique features that differentiate naval warfare from its land and aerial counterparts and suggests that we consider naval war literature as a distinct subgenre.
