Thyroid nodules are an increasingly frequent reason for consultation in Pediatrics. Considering that the presence of one or more thyroid nodules has a higher risk of malignancy than in adults, a rapid, individualized, systematic and stratified approach is required to estimate the risk of malignancy and guide therapeutic conduct. The evaluation of a child or adolescent with a thyroid nodule should include the systematic investigation of each of the following points: Personal and family history, physical examination, biochemical evaluation, ultrasound, cytology by fine needle aspiration, and if possible, molecular studies. It is important that primary care physicians identify and refer patients promptly to the Pediatric or General Endocrinologist and that they are up to date and trained and have the necessary laboratory and imaging studies for initial care. Ideally, there should be a multidisciplinary team (Endocrinologist, Sonographer, Pathologist and Surgeon) to ensure promptness and effectiveness in resolving the pathology.
