| Sumario: | The article puts forth the proposition that climate fiction should be regarded as a subject of interest within the field of intercultural German literary studies. Following an overview of the tendencies and developments in contemporary literature concerning the topic of nature and climate, a brief introduction is provided into the field of postcolonial ecocriticism. This field has been the subject of closely related questions for over three decades. The article then turns to Roman Ehrlich's novel Malé (2020) as an illustrative example of how methods and questions of intercultural German Studies can be fruitfully applied to a work of climate fiction. The text was selected for its demonstration of the necessity to perceive the climate crisis as an intercultural phenomenon. The concept of ›Fremdheit‹, as developed in Early German Romanticism, is identified as a prerequisite for both capitalist and environmental exploitation. In accordance with Norbert Mecklenburg's terminology, the text is regarded as having intercultural potential as a critical potential. On a broader scale, this illustrates the value of climate fiction as a subject of intercultural German studies.
