| Sumario: | Introduction: The removal of benign tumors causes craniofacial complications, altering the anatomy and functions of the stomatognathic system. Objective: The objective of this case report is to present the comprehensive approach of a patient with a partial maxillectomy due to the surgical removal of a pleomorphic adenoma, using a prosthetic obturator for rehabilitation. Clinical findings: A 75-year-old male patient was referred to the UFM dental clinic for treatment of a postsurgical defect with well-defined margins, located on the hard palate and crossing the junction of the hard and soft palate and invading the depth of the sulcus at the anterior level, with a size of 36 mm x 44 mm. The treatment plan included restoring the upper jaw using a maxillary removable partial prosthesis with a prosthetic obturator and the lower jaw with a dentomucosal-supported removable partial denture. Conclusion: The comprehensive dental approach of the patient allowed satisfactory function and a significant improvement in the psychological health and quality of life. Introducción: La remoción de tumores benignos origina secuelas craneofaciales, que alteran la anatomía y las funciones del aparato estomatognático de los pacientes afectados. Objetivo: El objetivo de este reporte de caso es presentar un abordaje integral de un paciente con maxilectomía parcial superior por remoción quirúrgica de un adenoma pleomórfico, rehabilitado oralmente con un obturador protésico. Observación clínica: Un paciente masculino de 75 años se presentó a la clínica de Odontología de la UFM con un defecto postquirúrgico de 36 x 44 mm, con márgenes bien definidos, ubicado en el paladar duro y que atraviesa la unión del paladar duro y blando e invade el fondo del surco a nivel anterior. El maxilar superior fue rehabilitado mediante una prótesis removible superior con obturador protésico de acrílico y una prótesis parcial removible convencional dentomucosoportada en el maxilar inferior. Conclusión: El abordaje integral del paciente permitió el restablecimiento satisfactorio de la función, lo que aumentó significativamente el bienestar psicológico y la calidad de vida del paciente. |
