      ab: Background: Mental and physical health is fundamentally linked. Both significantly impact people's overall health, quality of life, demands on health care, and other publicly funded services, which generates consequences for society. Therefore, wearable sensors have become more commonly used to gather data and track mental stress in an unobtrusive manner. Our scoping review aims to investigate studies that employ wearable ECG sensors to detect and track stress. Methods: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) framework databases were deemed to represent a majority of the literature. Moreover, websites that provide gray literature were also searched for articles of relevance. Three health and information technology research databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, and IEEE Xplore) were searched for papers covering non-invasive ECG-based wearables to collect and accurately analyze ECG data. Results: Three hundred eleven papers focusing on psychological or mental stress were identified. A portion of 23 studies satisfied the inclusion criteria. Out of them, six full text conference and 16 journal-based articles were considered. Five out of the 23 studies relied solely on ECG signals, whereas the remaining 18 studies combined ECG with other sensors to detect stress. Conclusion: Wearable mental health monitoring technology is undeniably popular. Numerous limitations must be fixed before wearable technology is considered extensively to help patients. Among these limitations are a lack of extensive and diverse studies, as well as a decrease in the user's sense of comfort and privacy.
