      ab: Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) is an X-linked neuromuscular disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration, with an estimated prevalence of 1 in 18,000 male births. While traditional management emphasizes motor function preservation through physical therapy and pharmacological interventions, neurocognitive and behavioral challenges remain underrecognized, despite their substantial impact on a child's functional independence and quality of life. We present the case of a 12-year old boy with genetically confirmed BMD who initially exhibited gait disturbances, easy fatigability and motor delays. Over time, emerging difficulties in activities of daily living (ADLs), social-emotional regulation, verbal comprehension, attention span and academic engagement became evident. A structured, multidisciplinary intervention was initiated through the New Horizons Developmental Program (NHDP), incorporating a multidisciplinary approach with the main emphasis being on parental coaching. Intervention was delivered sequentially, addressing motor concerns first, followed by independence in ADLs, behavioral and emotional self-regulation and cognitive and academic challenges. After nine months of targeted intervention, the child exhibited significant improvements across multiple domains, including increased physical endurance, enhanced independence in self-care, improved emotional regulation, improved focus and attention, executive skills and academic performance. This case underscores the necessity of a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach in managing BMD, shifting beyond traditional motor-centric interventions to address neurocognitive and psychosocial challenges. A sequential, domain-specific intervention strategy optimizes functional outcomes and helps children with BMD achieve their maximum developmental potential.
