Cursing is a form of ill-wishing practiced by men and often by women as well in the Southeastern geography. Especially in the patriarchal order, it is a form of self-soothing against masculine domination. The culture of cursing, which appears as a form of resistance against life, is revealed by expecting punishment from the divine power. The curses, which have various interlocutors, are generally centered on death. It is a state of pretending to do something when one cannot actually do anything. In terms of the social system, curses, which exist as an important element of oral culture in the life worlds of people, especially women, are an ontological phenomenon, a sociological fact and undertake an important burden in the cultural context. This study examines the place of the curses used in Gaziantep, especially in the lives of Generation X and Y, through discourse analysis, and is also interested in why they do not find a response in the world of Generation Z. The study is an ethnographic research in which data was obtained through in-depth interviews. The curses used in Gaziantep, obtained through questions directed to 11 people from different generations, were analyzed through discourse analysis. In order to understand the on-site observation and emotional states, interviews were also conducted with 10 participants in a physical environment. This situation, which is handled in the context of the differences between oral and written culture, aimed to provide a map of the ethnography of cursing and to reveal the status of curses in oral communication. As a result, it is thought that the patriarchal hierarchical structure within the family increases the prevalence of the curse culture in periods when daily life is lived collectively in social life. Finally, the diversity and prevalence of the use of curses in today's Gaziantep society, where generations are getting younger and individual life is more visible, supports this idea.
