| Sumario: | The purpose of this methodological paper is to share our experiences with setting up a multi-level mixed methods design in studying localised experiences of asylum seekers in reception centres. Using Belgium as a case study, we apply a multi-level analysis approach that integrates micro-, meso-, and macro-level dimensions. The micro-level focuses on asylum seekers' lived experiences, the meso-level examines their social networks and the support they receive, while the macro-level considers the political, economic, and social structures of their locality. This paper underscores the value of a mixed methods research approach, outlining key insights, challenges, and lessons learned from our fieldwork. We detail various stages of research, including sampling, data collection, and data analysis, offering practical guidance for researchers looking to implement similar designs in migration studies.
