| Sumario: | • This study investigated the impact of a strength training program, isolated and combined with cognitive tasks, on older women. It highlighted that both interventions improved mobility, functional capacity, and upper muscle strength compared to the control group. • The results indicated that the combined training group did not show significant differences compared to the isolated training group in most tests, suggesting that adding cognitive tasks to strength training can be as effective as isolated strength training in improving physical capacity and muscle strength in older women. • A reduction in fall risk and improvements in flexibility and cardiorespiratory capacity were observed in the experimental groups after nine weeks of intervention, emphasizing the effectiveness of strength training and cognitive activities in promoting functional health in older adults. This study investigated the effects of isolated muscle strength training and combined with dual-task activities on the physical and functional performance of 50 older women. Participants were allocated into a control group, strength training group, and dual-task group. The tests included chair sit-to-stand, elbow flexion, handgrip strength, forward reach, backward reach, Timed Up and Go, gait speed, and two-minute stationary walk. Interventions were conducted twice a week for nine weeks. Data were analysed using the descriptive and inferential statistic (p<0.05). An interaction effect between group and time was observed in the backward reach and chair sit-to-stand tests (p<0.001), with increased results in the experimental groups. Time and interaction effects between group and time were observed in the two-minute stationary walk test in the experimental groups (p<0.001). Both isolated muscle strength training and strength training combined with cognitive activities were practical in promoting physical and functional improvements in older women.
