Sumario:Autistic individuals 1 may experience sensory dysregulation, which can negatively impact the development of skills and quality of life. Currently, there is scant research exploring the effects of music therapy with autistic people experiencing sensory dysregulation. The researchers explored the feasibility of a multisensory protocol (effects on recruitment time, attrition rate, and observational measures) and acceptability from participants and their caregivers. A within-group, alternating-treatment design included three treatment and three treatment as usual (TAU) sessions. Five autistic children participated and completed all six sessions. TAU and treatment sessions included experiences with the same preselected songs, but the treatment sessions included presenting motor planning tasks and sensory supports. Caregivers reported that the music therapy sessions were conveniently scheduled and felt satisfied with music therapy services. Implementation issues included extraneous events (participants arriving late, using the bathroom, and having family schedule changes), protocol changes (different uses of sensory supports and different drums), and technological issues. Future research should address the extraneous variables identified in this study.
