In this context, concepts such as memory, remembering and forgetting in relation to memory, and what social memory is have been emphasized. How artists process these concepts in their production practices and how they reveal social memory as a visual expression are also addressed. Based on the findings of the research process, the focus is on the artworks of Colombian artist Doris Salcedo and French artist Christian Boltanski. Both artists were selected because they present their artworks as a transfer of memory based on their personal and social histories. The works are interpreted as transforming social memory into a resistance against forgetting. In this context, while examining the role of art in creating social memory through two artists, it is revealed how artworks record the past and how they develop a practice of remembrance on the audience. It has been concluded that memory is not only an individual phenomenon, but also shaped by historical and social contexts; artworks provide a transmission of the agenda in this process and create an archival effect. While both artists construct a social language on losses and traumas, Salcedo's production language is based on research, while Boltanski's is based on the idea of archive. Qualitative research method was used in the research. While benefiting from theoretical studies on memory, artworks were analyzed in relation to the subject. Periodical, printed, electronic sources, artist interviews, catalogs and websites were examined. Bu araştırma toplumsal belleğin sanat çalışmalarında nasıl bir ifade aracına dönüştüğü üzerinedir. Bu kapsamda bellek, bellekle ilişkili olarak hatırlama, unutma gibi kavramlar ile toplumsal belleğin ne olduğu üzerinde durulmuştur. Sanatçıların bu kavramları üretim pratiklerinde nasıl işlediklerine, görsel bir ifade olarak toplumsal belleği nasıl ortaya koyduklarına değinilmiştir. Araştırma sürecinde elde edilen çıkarımlara dayanarak Kolombiyalı sanatçı Doris Salcedo ve Fransız sanatçı Christian Boltanski’nin sanat yapıtlarına odaklanılmıştır. İki sanatçı da kişisel ve toplumsal tarihlerinden hareketle sanat yapıtlarını bir bellek aktarımı olarak ortaya koymaları dolayısıyla belirlenmiştir. Ele alınan çalışmalar, unutmaya karşı toplumsal belleği bir dirence dönüştürmeleri ile yorumlanmıştır. Bu bağlamda iki sanatçı üzerinden sanatın toplumsal belleği oluşturmasındaki rolü incelenirken sanat eserlerinin geçmişi nasıl kayıt altına aldığı ve izleyici üzerinde nasıl bir hatırlama pratiği geliştirdiği ortaya konmuştur. Belleğin yalnızca bireysel bir olgu olmadığı aynı zamanda tarihsel, toplumsal bağlamlarla şekillendiği; sanat yapıtlarının bu süreçte gündeme dair aktarım sağladığı ve arşivsel bir etki yarattığı sonucuna varılmıştır. Her iki sanatçı da kayıplar, travmalar üzerinde toplumsal bir dil kurarken Salcedo’nun araştırmaya dayalı, Boltanski’nin arşiv fikrine dayalı bir üretim dili ortaya koydukları görülmüştür. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bellek üzerine kuramsal çalışmalardan yararlanırken sanat yapıtlarında konuyla ilişkili olarak eser analizi yapılmıştır.
