The differentiation of brutal assaults on maternity from other types of gendered violence allows for a questioning of how each filmmaker cinematically evokes their protagonists' strong maternal bonds to their children and the consequences of severing these. Moreover, existing literature on mothers' organizations in Latin America is considered to contrast the fictional characters' reaction to similar circumstances and to underscore the necessity of a new nomenclature for this type of violence. Este artículo propone el concepto de una "agresión brutal contra la maternidad" como lente para analizar tres películas latinoamericanas que retratan a mujeres que han sido violentamente separadas de sus hijas/os. Las películas son la argentina La historia oficial (1985), dirigida por Luis Puenzo; la peruana Canción sin nombre (2019), por Melina León; y la mexicana La civil (2021), por Teodora Ana Mihai. Diferenciar las agresiones brutales contra la maternidad de otras formas de violencia de género me permite cuestionar cómo cada cineasta establece la maternidad y las consecuencias de cortar el lazo materno.
