Sumario:The article focuses on the physiological responses of individuals performing simulated shipboard firefighting tasks, highlighting the risks associated with such activities. Seventeen subjects participated in a study where they completed various firefighting tasks while wearing protective gear, with measurements taken for heart rate, core temperature, perceived exertion, and physiological strain index. Results indicated significant increases in heart rate, core temperature, and perceived exertion as tasks progressed, suggesting that these activities lead to considerable physiological stress. The study concludes that future research should explore optimal work-to-rest ratios to enhance firefighter safety during shipboard operations.
