Sumario:The article investigates the impact of transient mental stress (MS) on maximal aerobic capacity and arterial stiffness in sedentary males. The study involved eighteen participants who underwent a mental arithmetic task to induce stress and a control trial of seated rest, with measurements of arterial stiffness taken before and after each trial. Results indicated that MS significantly increased arterial stiffness, as measured by brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV), and was associated with a decrease in maximal oxygen uptake during aerobic exercise. The findings suggest that acute increases in arterial stiffness due to mental stress may negatively affect aerobic exercise capacity.
