| Sumario: | Background & Aims: Increasing use of smartphones and computers has rendered the internet essential to modern life. This study aimed to determine the level of internet addiction and its relationship with the level of physical activity among nursing and midwifery students of Qom University of Medical Sciences, Qom, Iran, in 2021. Materials and Methods: The present cross-sectional study was conducted on 150 Nursing and Midwifery students in Qom, Iran, in 2021. These participants were selected by random sampling. The data collection tools were Yang's questionnaire and Beck's physical activity level questionnaire. Data analysis was performed in SPSS software (version 26), and the study's significance level was considered below 0.05. Results: The results showed that 51.3%, 42.7%, and 6% of students had no internet addiction, moderate addiction, and severe addiction, respectively. Moreover, a significant inverse correlation was observed between internet addiction and physical activity (r = -0.29, p < 0.001). The mean age of the students was 21.9 ± 2 years. Furthermore, 60% of the students were female, 88% were single, 25.3% lived in the dormitory, and 74.7% were indigenous. The highest-ranking reasons for internet use were entertainment (80.7%) and chatting (74.7%). Average physical activity of students in the severe internet addiction group was lower than that of the other two groups (p = 0.002). The results showed a statistically significant difference in addiction to the internet between male and female students. Conclusion: However, there was no significant relationship between marital status and internet addiction. Finally, the significant inverse correlation between internet addiction and physical activity showed that increased internet addiction decreases participation in sports activities.
