Sumario:This study raises some questions that arise from the connection between image and verbum mentis (or idea). It observes how the expressive and revelatory dimensions that are characteristic of both realities are articulated in St. Bonaventure’s thought; and it considers the implications that derive in relation to Jesus Christ, Image of God the Father and Incarnate Word. First of all, it introduces how these issues were posed in the intellectual tradition received by Bonaventura. Next, the main features of the Bonaventurian conception of the image are presented. Then it is shown how the image is related to the verbum mentis in this author, through concepts such as likeness, generation, expression and manifestation. Finally, some consequences of considering these ideas in the eternal and incarnate Word are pointed out.
En este estudio se plantean algunas cuestiones que surgen de la conexión entre imagen y "verbum mentis” (o idea). Se observa cómo se articulan en el pensamiento de S. Buenaventura las dimensiones expresiva y reveladora que son propias de ambas realidades, y se consideran algunas implicaciones en relación con Jesucristo, Imagen de Dios Padre y Verbo encarnado. Primero se introduce cómo se habían planteado estos temas en la tradición intelectual que acoge Buenaventura. A continuación se presentan los rasgos principales de su comprensión de la imagen. Luego se pone de manifiesto cómo se relacionan en este autor la imagen y el "verbum mentis”, a través de conceptos como semejanza, generación, expresión y manifestación. Y por último se apuntan algunas consecuencias que se derivan de considerar estas ideas en el Verbo eterno y encarnado.
