The article analyzes modal power as a specific regime of power that regulates what is considered permissible and necessary. The primary function of modal power is the establishment of control over the «truth situation», which presupposes influence not only on the behavior and actions of individuals but also on the determination of their activity within the socio-political field. Proceeding from the critique of classical models of power, the author focuses on those forms of influence aimed not only at controlling the actions of individuals but also at producing modal structures -- possibilities, obligations, prohibitions, and potentialities. Performativity is examined as one of the central mechanisms of the modalization of individuals, through which the boundaries of the permissible and the impermissible are legitimized. This allows modal power to shape the horizons of thought and existence of individuals, ensuring the consolidation and expansion of power regimes by translating them from the social field of the potential into social reality. Purpose of the article is to investigate the dispositifs of modal power that are based on performative speech acts, which construct the framework of the possible/impossible, necessary/desirable, and which define individuals' perception of social reality and of themselves. Methodology. The research is grounded in comparative analysis, philosophical hermeneutics, and the phenomenological method. Results. Considering modal power in the light of performative speech acts makes it possible to reconstruct a subtler and less visible form of influence that does not operate through direct prohibitions or immediate violence but instead constructs the very structure of the possible, as a mode of governing the modalities of human existence. Performativity is examined as a dominant factor of modal power. This enables an interpretation of power not as an external coercion but as a productive and constitutive force that always addresses both individuals directly and the masses collectively. Consequently, modal power becomes embedded in the ontology of the subject. The analysis undertaken allows us to conceptualize performativity as a peculiar form of modal compulsion that transcends conventional discourses of power. Through such a research optic, further studies may reconceptualize numerous political and social conflicts within society, acts of exclusion of individuals, as well as strategies of re sistance and transgression. Moreover, this approach makes it possible to investigate performativity as an instrument of resistance and of individuals' escape from power regimes, and to consider the concept of «algorithmic modality». This conceptualization opens a new perspective on the formation of contemporary subjectivity. pubtype: Academic Journal doctype: Article src: R language: Ukrainian refInfo: copyright: @attributes: flag: Y custom: Copyright of Humanities Studies is the property of Zaporizhzhe State Engineering Academy and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites without the copyright holder's express written permission.
