Methods: A multi - stage cluster sampling method was adopted to select 613 rural elderly people in Shanxi province as the research subjects for a questionnaire survey. The survey content included the basic information of the respondents, the usage of the internet of things, the awareness of internet of things technology, feedback on obstacles when using internet of things technology, and the willingness to accept health services, etc. Results: A total of 321 elderly people used the internet of things, accounting for 52.36%.32.95% of the elderly had heard of but were not very familiar with internet of things technology. 46.17% of the elderly use one type of smart device. 80.42% of the elderly had searched for health information. The search frequency for disease knowledge, healthy lifestyles and drug instructions were higher than them for other contents. Accidental touches were the main feedback obstacles for rural elderly people in Shanxi province when using internet of things technology. The proportion of elderly people who were willing to receive free health services and those who were willing to pay less than RMB 50 yuan was relatively higher.
