In order to understand the concept of incense in the Ancient Near East, Mesopotamian and Hittite cuneiform sources, festivals, magic, purification rituals and treatment texts were examined. The selected examples (prescriptions with ghost symptoms, akītu, maqlû, šurpu, mīs pî, pīt pî, NAM.BÚR.BI, AN.DAH. ŠUMSAR, (h)išuwa, itkahi, invocation of the gods, hantitaššu-maštigga) are compared both among themselves and with the contemporary incense tradition. At the same time, experimental studies were carried out on some of the recipes in cuneiform texts. Afterwards, the possible effects of incense on the peoples of the Ancient Near East and its reflections on modern Anatolia were tried to be understood. As a result, although the tradition of incense is not as intense as it was in Ancient Near Eastern society, it has survived to the present day without losing its protective and therapeutic qualities against bad eyes and evil.
Eski Yakın Doğu’daki tütsü kavramım anlamak amacıyla Mezopotamya ve Hitit çivi yazılı kaynaklarında, bayram, büyü, arındırma ritüelleri ve tedavi metinleri incelenmiştir. Seçilen örnek metinler (hayalet semptomlu reçete, akıtu, maqlû, surpu, mîs pî, pıt pî, NAM.BUR.BI, AN. D AH.
