Sumario:This article presents an interview with writer Bharati Mukherjee. Mukherjee says that her father was in Calcutta, India, when she was growing up in the 1950s. She says that he was an old-fashioned kind of patriarch when it came to management of his daughters' lives. She says that she met her husband Clark Blaise in 1963 as fellow students at The Iowa Writers' Workshop. She says that they had a two-week courtship and a five-minute wedding in a lawyer's office during a lunch break. She says that her book "The Tree Bride" has turned out to be the prequel in what she now thinks of as a projected trilogy.
