| Sumario: | For a long time a rivalry between Francesc Eiximenis and Vicent Ferrer has been theorised due to certain actions and divergences in their thinking. This image is sometimes the outcome of popular beliefs built on long-standing traditions. The famous anecdote about the saint's "vanity" when entering València while being welcomed by a roaring crowd is part of the aforementioned tradition. Nevertheless, a critical review elicits many doubts about the historicity of this fact and the extent of Eiximenis and Ferrer's personal and ideological differences. Proof of this is the activity of a Vicentine sermons reader, who noted the similarities between these and some chapters of Primer del Crestià, beyond just common locations. Durant molt de temps, s'ha volgut assignar a Francesc Eiximenis i a Vicent Ferrer una rivalitat causada per determinades actuacions i per divergències de pensament. Aquesta imatge sovint és fruit d'un imaginari construït a partir de la tradició. En forma part la famosa anècdota sobre la «vanitat» del sant quan entrà a València envoltat d'una multitud enfervorida. Tanmateix, una repassada crítica provoca molts dubtes sobre la historicitat del fet i sobre la magnitud de les diferències personals i ideològiques entre els dos personatges. Ho prova l'activitat d'un lector dels sermons vicentins que va anotar coincidències entre aquests i alguns capítols del Primer del Crestià, més enllà de simples llocs comuns. |
