By directing an introspective gaze towards the unpredicted transformations instigated locally by the immigrant's experience, this song resonates with intricate social and cultural tensions surrounding the temporary home-coming immigrants in the rural areas of the country. I argue that ṭalyān is an intriguing musical narrative of postcolonial consciousness caught between salient moments of anxiety, mimicry and ambivalence wherein gender, ethnicity and class taxonomies coalesce together to reconfigure individual and communal identities during a historical juncture pervaded by an unprecedented fervour for the Italian dream. pubtype: Academic Journal doctype: Article src: R language: English refInfo: copyright: @attributes: flag: N holdings: @attributes: islocal: N |
