Summary:Starting from John Hartley's book Make/Believe: We and They on a Digital Planet (2025), the paper discusses the transition from "cultural studies 1.0" towards a "culture 2.0" and the need to develop new methods and methodologies in cultural studies today, which can provide a framework for understanding the impact of "Web 2.0" technologies (blogs, podcasts, social media). These new forms of content production, which are generating shifts in social power structures, are articulations of "make believing", a fundamental mechanism in human culture.
