ab: The aim of this article is to study a particular room of the medieval house in the Crown of Aragon, called (e)studi. This is based on the analysis of post-mortem inventories of assets dated between the fourteenth century and the first third of the sixteenth century. The article considers the reason why this term was used to name a room of medieval housing; it also determines who were the citizens who owned houses with estudi; and it figures out the number that could have been in the same residence, as well as the place they occupied in the whole house. Finally, based on the furniture and the objects housed in this room and on the indirect references given by the main sources, we define its uses and functions.
