      ab: A large healthcare system launched a quality improvement initiative to reduce pump alarms and minimize residual volume by implementing customized tubing solutions. Early results have shown clinically significant reductions in alarm frequency and residual volume, as well as improvements in reliably implementing best practice nursing workflows and increasing nurse satisfaction. AT A GLANCE ɔ Air-in-line alarms and residual drug volumes in infusion tubing were reduced and administration workflows were implemented, encompassing best practices and advancing patient safety and operational efficiencies. ɔ The initiative reduced nonurgent alarms, minimized workflow interruptions, decreased clinician burden, and enhanced the patient experience by contributing to more efficient care delivery. ɔ The project created an ongoing partnership with the device vendor to codevelop custom solutions, assisting in vendor-driven global tubing revisions and progressing toward fully customized designs to address clinical and operational challenges, resulting in reliable, standardized workflows.
