The study aimed to review the literature on the most explored topics, sport-specific tasks, and assessment tools related to MI in basketball. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four original studies were selected. Inclusion criteria included publications in Spanish, English, or Portuguese, from any period, focusing on MI in basketball with participants of any age, gender, and skill level. Results: The most studied topic was the application of MI to improve athletes' performance, particularly in tasks such as free throw shooting (FTS). The most commonly used assessment tool was the manipulation check. Discussion: Given MI's potential in motor learning, improving performance in specific tasks—especially FTS, due to its controlled and decisive nature—was the main focus of research.
