| Summary: | Wound care providers often see venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers and pressure ulcers in practice. This 'Top Ten Tips' reviews the other wounds or 'atypical ulcers'. As their name suggests, these are wounds that are uncommon, easily missed or misdiagnosed, and often require specific treatments. When a wound is not seen on a common location, such as the lower leg, walking surfaces of the foot and pressure areas, consider other aetiologies. Wounds can occur in patients with autoimmune disorders, malignancy, inflammatory, and infectious problems. Wounds can also develop in some genetic diseases and from external injury. These diseases often require consultation with a dermatologist and/or a rheumatologist.
