Relying on major contributions of translation theory, as well as on local specialized research, the study highlights the mechanisms through which translation has consistently managed the tension between foreignization and domestication. The analysis identifies three principles with continuity value, the precision conferred by classical borrowings, lexical expansion through neologization and morphological compatibility, which have functioned as the foundations of the modernization of medical terminology. The paper demonstrates that translation in the medical field has never represented a mechanical approach of terminological transfer, but a contextualized process, shaped by institutional policies, audience expectations and the dynamics of global scientific integration.
