| Sumario: | Animal welfare plays a key role in the professional practice of every veterinarian, is one of the fundamental areas of their professional training, as it promotes an ethical, scientific, and sustainable vision in the human-animal relationship. Its integration in the veterinary medicine curriculum, allows future professionals to understand the impact of the emotional and physical state of animals, in their management, environment, and health. Undergraduate and graduate programs in veterinary medicine and animal production which have integrated this science into their curricula, have provided specific knowledge for professionals currently working in welfare-related areas, to become trainers and sources of this knowledge. Latin America is a region with great animal production diversity and social challenges. Therefore, training veterinarians with knowledge in animal welfare strengthens the quality of animal life, raises professional standards, and responds to growing social demands for a more respectful relationship with animals. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (UAT), together with the Master’s in Animal Welfare of the FAVA of the University of the Americas (UDLA) began a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) type collaboration. Where UDLA graduate students mentoring first semester veterinary students of the FMVZ-UAT who are taking the subject of Animal Behavior, Management and Welfare, in the development of a project focused on improving animal welfare in different animal species. El bienestar animal juega un papel preponderante en la actividad profesional de todo medico veterinario, siendo una de las áreas fundamentales en su formación, ya que promueve una visión ética, científica y sostenible de la relación humano-animal. Su integración en el currículo permite a los futuros profesionales comprender el impacto del manejo, el ambiente y la salud en el estado físico y emocional de los animales. Los programas de licenciatura y posgrado en medicina veterinaria y en producción animal que han integrado esta ciencia en sus planes de estudio, han llegado a entregar un conocimiento especifico para los profesionales que hoy ya se desempeñan en labores asociadas al bienestar o están vinculados con estas áreas, especializándose para ser formadores y transmisores de este conocimiento. América Latina es una región con gran diversidad productiva y desafíos sociales. Por lo tanto, formar veterinarios con conocimientos en bienestar animal, fortalece la calidad de vida animal, eleva los estándares profesionales y responde a las crecientes demandas sociales por una relación más respetuosa con los animales. La facultad de Medicina Veterinaria y zootecnia de la Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT), junto con el Magíster en bienestar animal de la FAVA de la Universidad de Las Américas (UDLA) iniciaron una colaboración tipo Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), donde los estudiantes de postgrado de la UDLA, asesoran a estudiantes de primer semestre de la FMVZ-UAT que cursan la asignatura de Comportamiento Manejo y Bienestar Animal, en la elaboración de un proyecto enfocado en la mejora del bienestar animal en diferentes especies animales. |
