Methods: this is a descriptive, analytical study of secondary data based on documentary analysis of records of care provided at a psychiatric emergency department. Sociodemographic data, chief complaint, diagnosis, prescribed medications, and referrals were collected. Results: the treatment records of 187 individuals were analyzed. Most patients were female (64.2%); 40.6% were between 18 and 30 years old; 49.2% were single; and 59.4% were working or studying. The most prevalent complaints were suicidal ideation (69.0%), depressive symptoms (45.5%), suicide attempt (40.6%), and substance abuse (14.4%). The most frequently diagnosed mental disorders were personality disorders (27.8%), mood disorders (27.8%), and substance abuse (17.6%).
