| Sumario: | This article presents views of the author on book publishing in Great Britain. Some author works alone in a garret, impossible to deal with, possessing no business brain and unable to communicate other than with a pen and paper. What publishers want are authors who are professional and commercially-minded. People they can do business with. It is amazing that many writers view their publisher as nothing more than a necessary evil. Of course, the official line from publishers is that all authors are equal. But the fact of the matter is that some authors are more equal than others. Publishers want people who return calls, answer emails and meet deadlines.
