| Sumario: | This meeting report focuses on wound debridement, emphasizing its role as a fundamental, ongoing process in effective wound bed preparation to promote healing, particularly in chronic wounds. Debridement involves the removal of devitalized tissue, slough, microorganisms, biofilm, extracellular polymeric substance (EPS), and foreign material that impede healing and contribute to infection and inflammation. The report highlights mechanical debridement, including the introduction of Debrisoft® Duo, a dual-sided monofilament pad designed to efficiently remove both loose and adherent wound components without requiring advanced clinical skills. Evidence supports that regular, thorough debridement combined with cleansing reduces microbial burden, accelerates wound closure, and decreases healthcare costs, yet it remains underutilized in practice. Clinical considerations and cautions are outlined to guide safe and effective debridement tailored to patient needs and wound characteristics.
