ab: The analysis in this article nestles the Egyptian youth demand for dignity, specifically the demand for 'karama' as part of a broader landscape of indignities in 2011 in Egypt and beyond. The key argument in this paper is that Egyptian youth were able to benefit from a global context of simultaneous popular demands for dignity in different parts of the world. Ultimately, the legitimacy of their marginalisation fuelled their claim to karama. Their dignity narrative shows a grammar of the concept in action at times of political mobilisation.
