| Sumario: | Burnout is a serious health disorder that has increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Spanish Burnout Inventory (SBI) provides a broader conceptualisation of burnout by including feelings of guilt as a dimension to explain its development. The validity of the SBI in India has not yet been investigated. The purpose of this study was to assess the factorial validity of the SBI in India. The sample consisted of 210 Indian professionals working with people (nurses, teachers and others), 80% of whom were women, who completed either the Tamil (36.70%) or English translations of the questionnaire. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) programme. The results indicate that the factor solution revealed four factors underlying the 20 items, reproducing a structure consistent with the original model. The cumulative variance explained was 60.55%. Cronbach's alpha values for all subscales were higher than.70. We conclude that the SBI demonstrates factorial validity and that its scales present adequate internal consistency. Hence, the SBI can be considered a satisfactory instrument for evaluating burnout syndrome among Indian human services professionals.
